Science is the search for truth. It is a rational mechanism that uses logic, evidence and other facts to formulate theories to arrive at the truth. Religion is at odds with this rationality and thus those who advocate religion are deluded. And those scientists who claim compatibly of religion with truth in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary must do a pretty good job of compartmentalising the irrationality of religion from their rational thoughts. But, then, humans are not always consistent or rational in what they do which makes the scientific process an absolutely critical method to progress.

Religion is not compatible with truth. Religion is an intellectual prison, a method of control, a method of suppression and repression, which blinds the religious to the truth. It’s about time humanity broke free of its shackles, to experience the truth, to experience the excitement, wonders and mysteries of this planet and the universe.

That is why I believe that organisations such as the Templeton Foundation and BioLogos are fraudulent in what they do.

Karl Giberson

Just seen an article at Evolution Is True:

I’m no genius, but even I can see the infantile, naive and flawed logic expounded by Karl Giberson.

Really, why bother with all these convoluted “disappear up your own exhaust tube” logic? Religion is faith based, and a rational and consistent scientist/person will discard it; much as I have discarded Thor, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, Allah, Jehovah, and Zeus. All are concepts of the human mind with no evidence. Habeas corpus.

The main thing I got out of the article was a pointer to Bertrand Russell’s book “The Problems of Philosophy” which I located at the Project Gutenberg site at http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/5827 which included an EPUB format which I’ve promptly downloaded into iBooks on my iPad.

PS – Aha! Just found out that Karl Giberson is the Vice-President of the BioLogos Foundation. I’ve written about them before. That explains a lot.

Why Evolution Is True does a deconstruction of a flawed BioLogos article. Having read the rather desperate arguments in the BioLogos article I thought “Why did BioLogos even bother?”. Then I realised, BioLogos is nothing more than a religious forum, heavily slanted towards Judeo-Christianity, where people interpret scientific evidence with a God slant, where people cast doubt on scientific evidence that doesn’t suite their beliefs, where people believe in a God who interacts with us. I think Richard Dawkins blew these people right out of the water in his book “The God Delusion”. Knowing what BioLogos is provides insight into the question posed by Why Evolution Matters:

“isn’t BioLogos embarrassed to have this kind of stuff on its website, which purports to accept the findings of science?”

No, they’re not embarrassed; they’re a religious group, not a scientific group. That’s why they don’t matter.
