MacDonald highlights, and stamps on, the injustices of Jesus.

I’ve been watching with increasing bewilderment and concern over the reaction of two London universities (London School of Economics and University College London) to the “Jesus and Mo” pictures. Coyne of “Why Evolution Is True” has a couple of posts on this today:

Pharyngula also has a piece on the LSE:

To this eclectic mix I would add the brilliant piece by Eric MacDonald:

It’s clear that the LSE and UCL have made a mistake. Religion is NOT protected from criticism and does NOT deserve any special privileges. Those who call themselves “devout” need not fear criticism as they’ve already closed their minds and can continue to live in the happiness of their delusions. Certainly the “devout” have no legitimate mechanism to feel “hurt” or “offended”, and any claims for such feelings are mock by definition.

Equating criticism of religion to racism as these universities are doing is mistaken and beyond rationality. In the short time that I’ve looked at bogus degrees at British universities it has become evident that universities are more interested in generating revenue than in instilling knowledge. By capitulating to the religious, by appeasement to the irrational, these two universities have shown that they will do anything to acquire as much money as possible by stamping on rationality, by censuring and silencing the minority.

LSE, UCL, shame on you.

I came across this via richarddawkins.net…indoctrination and child abuse.

Disgusting. Children should be given the tools for critical thinking; tools that can be used to understand how the world really works. This "Jesus Camp" and other camps of whatever religion keep these tools out of reach and, instead, replace them with delusion, enslaving children to the irrationality and dogmas of religion.

Karl Giberson

Just seen an article at Evolution Is True:

I’m no genius, but even I can see the infantile, naive and flawed logic expounded by Karl Giberson.

Really, why bother with all these convoluted “disappear up your own exhaust tube” logic? Religion is faith based, and a rational and consistent scientist/person will discard it; much as I have discarded Thor, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, Allah, Jehovah, and Zeus. All are concepts of the human mind with no evidence. Habeas corpus.

The main thing I got out of the article was a pointer to Bertrand Russell’s book “The Problems of Philosophy” which I located at the Project Gutenberg site at http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/5827 which included an EPUB format which I’ve promptly downloaded into iBooks on my iPad.

PS – Aha! Just found out that Karl Giberson is the Vice-President of the BioLogos Foundation. I’ve written about them before. That explains a lot.

Being open

open

As someone said to me today, truth is truth, however it’s packaged. And “insulted” people just need to get over it.

I’m a nice guy most of the time, yes, really! So apart from this blog I don’t normally go around shouting at people and at their irrationalities, but I will confront those who deign to preach to me; may the Flying Spaghetti Monster have mercy on their souls ;)
