It seems Father Robert Barron thinks that “true” atheists have a joyless, hopeless mentality.

Well, Father Robert Barron must be a buffoon; as an atheist I know how precious life is, that we have this one moment in time to enjoy, to love and be loved, to help others, to wonder in amazement at what this world brings, to create monuments, to fight against injustice.

I love helping others, I enjoy the rewards and recognition of hard work, I love travelling and meeting people around the world, I love taking photos which I hope others will also enjoy. All this without the falsehoods and injustices that religions bring. A life free from religious tyranny and enslavement.

There is no evidence for a god. And religions have empty words built on delusion and lies. So, yes, live a full of joy. Father Robert Barron doesn’t get it.

UPDATE 2nd May 2012: Eric MacDonald provides a more detailed response on Father Robert Barron’s “ideas”.

Catholics attack rationality…no change there then!

The religious do not have a real concept of reality, of common sense. They are cocooned in their little fantasy world and feel threatened when someone points out weaknesses and other nonsense that the religious live in. So to protect their world, to hold onto power, the entrench further against reality, the religious lash out even it means that they make themselves even more fools.

I would go further and say that some of the religious know that some things are not true and deliberately delude and scam the people. How else can you explain the actions of these Catholic?

Faith is irrational. Yes, that is self evident. So why do so may people make that irrational jump into the absurdities of religion? Many people are brought up to believe, and many are not actually taught the skills of rational thought. And once you are in the thought-prison that religion constructs, it is hard to hear and see the truth. The fears of being wrong, the fears of a collapse of their world views, are enough to keep most people from seeking knowledge. Rather, they take pride in believing despite, and in spite of, evidence to the contrary. That is the core defining attribute of “faith”, a belief in irrationality.

Ignorance, a basic trait of the religious. It has to be; how else to explain this butchery?

Cherie Blair, or known as Cherie Booth QC, as judge issued a suspended sentence to a man convicted of a violent crime. One of the reasons that Cherie spared the man from being thrown into jail was because he was a “religious man”. Fine. So what Cherie seems to be saying is that those who are not religious will be subject to greater punishment.

Of course, extreme violence has been committed and continues to be commited by “devout and religious” peoples so there is no logic to Cheri’s comments. But perhaps that is what can be expected from someone who herself believes in all the nonsense and gibberish that are at the core of Roman Catholicism, much as in other religions.
