A trip in May 2004 to the Himalayan regions of India (Darjeeling), Bhutan, Nepal and Tibet.

Travelling overland from India, the first attempt to Nepal was postponed due to a strike called by the Maoist rebels. The second attempt got us into Nepal and the border guards said things were fine up ahead. Had to travel about 100km to get to the second airport (the first airport nearer the border was closed). However, 20km short of the airport we had to run back to India as there was a battle between Maoist rebels and government forces. Damn! The third attempt was flying to Delhi and then getting a flight to Kathmandu. Unfortunately there was a strike due to the Indian elections, and flights were generally running very late so we had many hours of waiting around. But this third attempt was eventually successful! The reward was a stay at the wonderful Yak & Yeti Hotel.
